Below are important dates for the 2026 Primary and General Elections.

2026 Primary Election

June 1

12:00 p.m. Deadline to file as a candidate.

Deadline for Kansans to change party affiliation.

June 20

Deadline to transmit UOCAVA ballots.

July 14

Deadline to register to vote or update your voter registration to change address or name only to participate in the 2026 primary election.

July 15

First day of advance voting. Advance ballots by mail are transmitted. In-person advance voting may begin. Check with your county election office for specific times and locations.

July 28

In-person advance voting must begin for all counties. 

August 4

PRIMARY ELECTION

(All ballots must be received by close of polls on Election Day.)

September 1

Last day for State Board of Canvassers to certify official results.

2026 General Election

September 19

Deadline to transmit UOCAVA ballots.

October 13

Deadline to register to vote or update your voter registration to change address or name only to participate in the 2026 general election.

October 14

First day of advance voting. Advance ballots by mail are transmitted. In-person advance voting may begin. Check with your county election office for specific times and locations.

October 27

In-person advance voting must begin for all counties.

November 3

GENERAL ELECTION

(All ballots must be received by close of polls on Election Day.)

December 1

Last day for State Board of Canvassers to certify official results.

2026 Primary Election Sample Ballots

Types of Elections:

1. City & School Elections - These occur in the fall of odd-numbered years and elect:

• Mayor (Johnson City & Manter)
• City Council Members
• School Board Members
• Hospital Trustees

2. State & Federal Elections - Held in the fall of even-numbered years to elect:

• National Offices: President/Vice-President of the U.S., U.S. Senators, U.S. Representatives
• State Offices: Kansas State Senator (39th District), Kansas House Rep (124th District), Judges
• County Offices: Commissioners, Clerk, Treasurer, Register of Deeds, Sheriff, Attorney
• Township & Local Offices: Township Trustee, Hospital Trustees

3. Special Elections - Addressing special questions, bond issues, recall of officials, and sales tax queries.

The County Clerk serves as the County Election Officer and is responsible for managing every election in Stanton County.
