Office of Real Property Valuation and Assessment
The Stanton County Appraiser’s Office is responsible for the fair and equitable valuation of all real and personal property within Stanton County, Kansas, in accordance with Kansas state law. Understanding Market Value
Fair market value is defined as the amount a well-informed buyer and a well-informed seller would agree upon in an open and competitive market without undue pressure or outside influence. It is important to understand that Appraisers do not create value—they interpret and analyze market activity to determine a property’s value based on real-world transactions.
Role in Property Taxation
The Stanton County Appraiser’s Office does not set tax rates or determine the amount of property taxes owed. The assessed value, established by the Appraiser’s Office, is multiplied by an assessment rate as defined in the Kansas Constitution. Tax rates are then set by local taxing entities, such as the county, cities, and school districts, based on their budget needs.
